It Pays To Hire a Bankruptcy Attorney

At a Meeting of Creditors today, I heard this all too common refrain from a Trustee to a debtor: “Why didn’t you hire a bankruptcy lawyer to help you with this??!” Sometimes a simple call to a bankruptcy attorney can keep a client from losing his/her house. This happened to a debtor who filed Chapter 7 on her own leaving an enormous amount of equity in her house unprotected. The Chapter 7 trustee was ready to sell her house. I was able to save her house by converting her case to Chapter 13.
